Island Palo Seco is located in the Parrita canton, in Costa Rica, very close to Damas Island, 25 min from Quepos Marina and 40 min from Jaco. Palo Seco is an incredible virgin beach hidden in the natural wonders of Parrita, whose sand is slightly dark in the sides and a bit clearer in the center, and which is surrounded by abundant tropical vegetation. The mouth of the Parrita river can be found in the west sector of this beach, and the Palo Seco estuary in its northern shore, an area through which you can travel to the mangroves and observe its wildlife. There, it is common to find species such as the seabass, Snook and grouper fishing; here it was given the world record for sea bass fishing. In addition, Palo Seco Mangroves has a local school whose aim is to protect sea turtles by incubating, protecting and releasing baby sea turtles whose mothers come ashore to lay their eggs.

Tips, Tricks & More*During your excursion, you will be fishing for Snook. To learn more about Snook—such as their habitats, fishing methods, baits and lures—check out our Fish Species section.
Practice makes perfect when learning to cast. If you already have a rod and reel, practice casting with it in a large open yard or park before your excursion.
Remember: Casting should be a fluid motion.
Most fish will seek out structure. Be on the lookout for rocks, fallen trees, stumps or points, and cast your line in these areas.
Pay close attention to the movement and feel of your line. It takes practice to differentiate between your lure or bait dragging on the bottom and a fish that is actually biting.
Be patient. Patience is the key to a good fishing trip.
