Tuna can be found throughout the year in Costa Rica, with higher record numbers in our Green Season from May–October. During these months, you are more likely to catch larger tunas pushing 200+lbs. All other months the common weight of a Yellow fin is from 20 – 100 lbs.
Yellowfin Tuna are torpedo-shaped with dark metallic blue backs, yellow sides, and a silver belly with finlets that are bright yellow. Yellowfin can live up to six or seven years. They travel in schools with other tunas and are also known to travel in schools with dolphins.
